The Italian region Veneto is going to invest in the promotion of its wines, proud of the region, and for this it will allocate over 3 million euro.
Wine, in Veneto, is a deep-rooted tradition as well as an important business. Venetian wines belong to the most appreciated and widespread Italian wines, and the region is at the top of the chart as far as the production of Italian fine wines is concerned, thanks to its 24 DOC zones. Each province in Veneto has much to offer in the field of wines, and the wineries of the region always hold pleasant surprises to the people who decide to visit them and who sometimes plan special tours. Form Valpolicella to Valdobbiadene, just to name two of the most famous wine zones of the region, Veneto has a rich heritage as far as wine production is concerned.
It is no coincidence that the regional council of Veneto has decided to promote this heritage with over 3 million euro (to be precise, 3 million 311 thousand euro) for the 2012-2013 campaign. This is the last part of the EU- financing used for these aims, which can be integrated by private financing. The project, born of the collaboration between Marino Finozzi, regional councillor for foreign trade, Franco Manzato, regional councillor for agriculture, and the representatives of the agricultural organizations, food industry, wine consortia and the top of Veronafiera dealing with “Vinitaly in the World”, is primarily meant to increase the presence of the region on international markets, an objective that can be pursued with a strengthening of the relationship between public (Region and Chamber of Commerce) and private systems. The main markets the project is addressed to are the emerging ones, in particular China, Russia and Canada. The support offered by Fiera di Verona will be very important for the realization of the project; together with the region and the wine system of Veneto, Fiera di Verona will try to create a common path to promote venetian wines.
A project that is meant to enhance the wine heritage of a region that boasts many areas in which high-quality wines are produced, wines that are well-known also abroad. The Valpolicella area, for example, is notably fruitful and famous and includes the towns Negrar, Marano, Fumane, S. Ambrogio and San Pietro in Cariano (in the northern part of the province of Verona). In the province of Verona there are also other zones that are famous for the production of wine, like Bardolino, Soave and Gambellara. In the zones of Valpolicella, Soave and Gambellara, in particular, Recioto is produced (a wine that has recently gained the D.O.C.G. guarantee).
The province of Treviso too is very famous for the production of wine. The best-known wine that comes to our mind, when we speak about this province, is probably prosecco, and its vine is cultivated in the area between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano. But the province of Treviso is also famous for the production of other fine wines, like Lison Pramaggiore Sauvignon, Montello e Colli Asolani Chardonnay and Piave Pinot Grigio.
Also in the province of Vicenza, in Breganze, fine wine is produced. Here the Vespaiolo vine is cultivated, which is used to make Torcolato. In these areas also an excellent Pinto Vero Superiore and a great Sauvignon are produced.
